PLAN YOUR FIRST VISIT
We hope you’ll visit us in person soon. Our goal is to make St. John UCC a safe place for you to continue taking steps in your faith journey.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT WHEN I ARRIVE ON SUNDAY?
We gather together every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. You are handed a bulletin as you enter the sanctuary so you may follow along with the service. Shortly into our worship service there is a time for the kids to come forward and hear a sermon from the pastor. If your child is not comfortable coming forward, that is okay, too. After the children’s sermon Preschool through High School are dismissed to Sunday School. (There is no Junior High and High School Sunday School during the summer or on the first Sundays of the month.) Worship for the adults continues and the children in Sunday School may be picked up from their classrooms after worship.
WHAT DO I DO WHEN I ARRIVE?
We encourage you to come early to let our Welcome Team at the table in the lobby help you find where you are going, get a name tag (we all wear them) and give you some time to get settled. We hope you fill out your information in the visitor section of the attendance log located in the pews to allow someone from St. John UCC to send a welcome and a hello later in the week.
WHAT IS WORSHIP LIKE?
We mix contemporary worship songs with traditional hymns. Our worship time is carefully planned to prepare our hearts and minds to remain attentive to God’s creative movement in the world. Religion and science are not mutually exclusive, and your head and heart are both welcomed into our places of worship. We prepare our members and leaders to be engaged in ministry in the present and future church, and we embrace all kinds of communities and new modes of thinking.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
At St. John we encourage you to come as you are. Some people wear suits and dresses and others wear jeans or shorts. We believe in an extravagant welcome and want you to come as you feel comfortable.
WHERE DO I PARK?
We have two lots outside our church-one on the west and one on the south lot. There is also street parking and a parking garage one block south of our church on the southeast corner of Evergreen and Eastman.
