MISSION
MISSION
Mission is an important part of our community life at St. John UCC. While we support several local helping agencies within our community, we are also involved in hands-on mission. The Mission Committee is supported by the congregation to assist local, statewide, national and international projects. We are blessed to serve and blessed by our service.
We serve as a PADS (Shelter Program) site and have recently collected items to help refugees re-settle. We collect food every week during our worship service for the local Food Pantry. We have a “Little Free Pantry” on our property which provides small necessities for any who need them. We have also collected things such as birthday party supplies and Christmas gifts for families in need. We have participated in a community program called Summer Suppers, hosting a meal several times during the summer months.
Additionally, as part of the United Church of Christ, we value social justice as a part of our faith. We have/have had
ongoing conversations about such things as racial justice, poverty, diversity, and refugees.
SERVE – PADS
St. John PADS Mission
St. John UCC is one of many partner churches who work with Journeys | The Road Home, the umbrella organization for PADS. The purpose of the PADS program is to provide hospitality, food, and emergency shelter from October 1 through April 30 of each year to families and individuals who are experiencing housing insecurity.
The St. John PADS program is staffed entirely by volunteers who prepare, supervise, and clean sleeping accommodations. Volunteers also provide, prepare, and offer dinner, breakfast, and a sack lunch, all in a welcoming, supportive, safe environment.
Volunteers are needed for several different shifts as well as to purchase or prepare food.
Shift Schedule
- Set – up shift: 6:00 – 7:00 pm (set up rooms)
- First shift: 6:30 pm – 11:00 pm or 6:30 – 9:00 pm (manage the site, registration)
- Meal servers: 6:30 – 9:00 pm
- Second shift: 10:45 pm – 3:00 am (monitor site and make lunches)
- Third shift: 2:45 am – 7:00 am (monitor site, serve breakfast, and begin cleanup)
- Clean up shift : 7:00 am – 8:30 am (clean up and put everything back)
